Directions of research activity
1. synthesis of new ion exchangers and the investigation of the relationship between their structure and selectivity;
2. investigation of ion-selective electrodes response with plasticized polymer membranes based on synthesized ion exchangers and their compositions with neutral carriers;
3. experimental and theoretical (mathematical modeling) study of the influence of interface and intra-membrane equilibria, as well as diffusion processes at the membrane-solution interface on the ion-selective electrodes response;
4. development of ion-selective electrodes for interoperational control of technological processes in pharmaceutical industries;
5. development of ion-selective microelectrodes for studying corrosion processes.
Main achievements
- higher quaternary ammonium salts and amines have been synthesized - derivatives of (2,3,4-tris-dodecyloxy) benzyl chloride with controlled steric accessibility of the exchange center: [C43H79O3NR1R2R3]+ Cl-, where R1, R2, R3 is methyl, octyl, or atom hydrogen in various combinations;
- the ion exchange constants of a large number of singly and doubly charged anions on synthesized ion exchangers have been determined;
- discovered and theoretically substantiated the phenomenon of an increase in the exchange selectivity to doubly charged ions with an improvement in the steric accessibility of the exchange center of the ion exchanger, which also manifests itself in the potentiometric selectivity of anion-exchange membranes, which makes it possible to improve the selectivity coefficients to sulfate, oxalate, hydrogen phosphate in the presence of singly charged anions by 4-8 decimal orders;
- the constants of intramembrane equilibria were determined: the ionic association of a number of anions with higher quaternary ammonium cations and conditional constants of the complexation of anions with the hexyl ester of p-trifluoroacetylbenzoic acid, and the effect of the nature of the ion exchanger on the values of the constants was clarified; the influence of the intramolecular hydrogen bond of the detected ions on the efficiency of intramembrane interactions was established;
- a strong influence of the diffusion factor on the analytical characteristics of ion-selective electrodes in solutions of strongly discriminated ions has been established; a method for determining unbiased selectivity coefficients is proposed;
- the specific ways of controlling the selectivity of ion-selective electrodes reversible to cations of physiologically active amines are proposed.
Developments
1. sulfate-selective electrode;
2. express method for the determination of potassium by potentiometric titration with sodium tetraphenylborate using a potassium-selective electrode;
3. ion-selective electrodes for the determination of cations of physiologically active amines, anions of non-steroidal analgesics, penicillins and methods of using them in the analysis;
4. universal electrode and unified procedure for determining hydrophobic physiologically active amines in dosage forms by precipitation potentiometric titration to a preset potential;
5. microelectrodes for local investigation of corrosion processes by scanning potentiometry (together with IST, Aveiro).
